About the Department

The Department of Business Management was established in 1989 and later renamed as Department of Business Administration. The aim of the department is to impart adequate management knowledge and develop managerial, communication, leadership and entrepreneurial skills in students. The programme leads the students to pursue their studies of MBA and other business oriented courses. Periodically, the department conducts seminars, workshops, conferences in the college and the students are also encouraged to participate in the co-curricular activities at other colleges. Guest lectures and industrial visits are also organized to enhance the quality and content of the programme. In addition, discussion methods and interaction methods are followed to develop debating and leadership skills. The department also aims:

To motivate the students to achieve more university ranks.

To offer practical exposure to students.

To make use of modern teaching aids and methodology like LCD, E- Learning etc.

To expose students to real time situations through case study methods, role play exercises and management games.

To bring out the hidden potentialities of the students by encouraging them to participate in seminars, conferences, workshops and symposia etc.

To provide for Institutional Training for a period of 30 days to enable students to acquire industrial exposure.

Course Introduction

The programme leads the students to pursue their studies of MBA and other business oriented courses. Periodically, the department conducts seminars, workshops, conferences in the college and the students are also encouraged to participate in the co-curricular activities at other colleges. Guest lectures and industrial visits are also organized to enhance the quality and content of the programme. In addition, discussion methods and interaction methods are followed to develop debating and leadership skills.

The students are given Internship training during the final year of their study for a period of 6 weeks which thereby helps them work in an environment where practical knowledge can be gained through interaction with the employees. The department has produced 6 university ranks.

The students’ Association named “SYNERGY” helps in bringing out the hidden caliber of the students. Several activities like Seminars, Guest Lectures by Eminent Industry based professionals, Management Games, Role Play and Industrial Visits are conducted for the overall development of the students.

Add-On Course

The department has adopted Advertising Management as add on course. It helps the students to learn about the modern trends in the advertising world. The course is comprised of two theory papers, viz “Introduction to Advertising” and “Advertising Media and its Practices”. In addition, it comprises of project and practical sessions on advertising.

COURSE INTRODUCTION:

The programme came into existence in the year 1989. The duration of the course is 3 years. The degree provides the students with a wide range of managerial skills and competence in a particular area of commerce. Add On Course: Net Banking

Objectives:

Net Banking has been designed with an aim at imparting an introductory level net banking programme for students. On completion of the course the students will be able to use computers for basic purpose of preparing his personnel/business correspondence letters, surfing the Internet , sending mails, using internet banking services etc. It also ensures that the students become digitally literate.

The department runs the prime course of Bachelor of Commerce with Computer Applications since its inception in 2000.The department provides technical skills for computer technology, accounting and business skills. Students opting to undergo a course in B.Com. (C.A.) learn not only the subject of commerce but are also taught to use software technology for their professional requirements. The course bridges the gap between commerce and computer application and helps students to become smart and employable. Training in computer applications in the field of commerce is an extra in terms of placement requirements.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The department of B.Com. I.T. was established in the year 2009. At present, the department has 4 staff members and 134 students. The members of staff are fully qualified, motivated and dedicated towards maintaining healthy staff-student relationship. They play a vital role in guiding and shaping the students in following the latest global trends.

The department consists of 90 boys and 44 girls. Most of the students are from rural areas with Tamil as the medium of instruction at the higher secondary level. The department has been taking efforts to continually enhance the quality of education by strengthening the teaching learning process. The faculty members work as a team to produce better results. They prepare the academic calendar, lesson plans and the valuation schedule and execute them with the approval of the principal.

Every semester has three continual internal assessment tests and the results will be sent to the parents in the form of progress reports. The members of the staff organize seminars, symposia and conferences in the college through department association named "LANCER". The students are sent to other colleges to participate in cultural and academic programmes.

The department is very keen in placing students in companies of national and international repute. Alumni of the department work for companies like TCS, Sutherland, HCL, DELL, CTS, CITY Bank, etc. and are serving as academicians and entrepreneurs also.

The Bachelor of Commerce in Information Technology is a much-sought-after undergraduate programme. The department of B.Com. I.T. has taken up the course of Export and Import Management as an Add-on Course for the benefit of the commerce students. The course comprises of 3 papers and one practical training module. The subjects include Fundamentals of Export and Import Management, Export Procedures and Export Marketing. Apart from this, practical training is also provided.

This Add on Course benefits the students in terms of awareness about the export and import documentation, procedures and international marketing.

This course is the largest of the introductory programming courses. The topics focusing on the introduction to the computer applications emphasizing modern software engineering principles are object-oriented design, decomposition, encapsulation, abstraction, and testing. Programming Methodology teaches the widely-used programming languages along with good software engineering principles. Emphasis is given on good programming style and the built-in facilities of the languages. The course is explicitly designed to appeal to humanists and social scientists as well as hard-core technologists.

The department was established during the year 2007. It offers under graduate and post graduate programmes in Information Technology. The department aims at moulding the students with high discipline and a good academic exposure. Course Introduction

Information technology department is considered a bridge between computer science specializations and organizational and administrative fields whereby a student gains knowledge and acquires skills necessary to develop, design and maintain systems and then utilize them in financial and administrative applications. The department association functions in the name "TECH GENIE" –the IT innovators, which conductsprogrammes and activities for the up gradation of the knowledge and skills of the students in the field of Information Technology. Industrial visits are undertaken to provide exposure to the students in IT industry.

Many workshops and guest lectures are being organized in latest areas of IT to inculcate new concepts into the minds of the students. The department of Computer Technology was established in 2013. It was started for the students whose primary interest is in applying available technology to solve practical problems for end users. The department of Biotechnology came in to existence in the year 2008, to promote higher education in the field of Bioscience. PG programmes were introduced in the year 2002, M. ADD ON COURSE - Medical Transcription

The Department has opted 'Medical Transcription' as it Add-on Course. The objective of the course design is to introduce career-oriented and skill enhancing add-on coaching classes. (ii) Further those who are working as (Full time Research Assistants / Project fellows / JRF / SRF in time bound Research schemes or one year duration or more in University Departments.

(a)Research departments of Affiliated Colleges / Recognized Research Institutions are eligible for admission.

ELIGIBILITY

1. Candidates with Master’s Degree of Bharathiar University in a concerned or related discipline or any other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto by the Syndicate of Bharathiar University.

All candidates should have passed a two-year post graduate degree course after 3-year Bachelor’s degree course and Higher Secondary course of 2-year duration after 10-year SSLC or one year Pre-degree after 11-year S.S.L.C. Further, candidates who have passed the PG degree examination with less than 17 years of total duration of study are not eligible for admission to the M.Phil. programme.

a) Candidates belonging to the following categories are eligible to register for M.Phil (Full-Time) programme.

Maximum period for completion of the M.Phil. programme is two years in the case of Full – time candidates and three years in the case of Part-Time candidates (including extension period).

The course of study for the M.Phil. degree programme shall consist of three written papers under Part I and a Dissertation under Part II of the Programme.

(i) ) Theory Papers (under Part I): Paper I Research Methodology, Paper II Trends in the concerned discipline, Paper III Special Paper (pertaining to the area of specialization chosen by the candidate under a guide). Part I examinations shall be conducted during March/September every year.

(ii) Dissertation (under Part II) Dissertation (under Part II) Candidates shall be required to choose a research problem in his/her chosen area of research and submit a dissertation incorporating the results of his / her investigation, carried out under the supervision of a recognized supervisor.

REGISTRATION

All Candidates who are admitted into the M.Phil. programme (Full-Time or Part-Time) will be registered to do research in a particular topic under the supervision of a recognized supervisor.

Candidates shall be registered for M.Phil. programme during only one session in a year, commencing on the first day of September, subject to the condition that the candidate so registered, shall be permitted to appear for Part I examination only after completing the minimum period of six months, in the case of full-time registration, and twelve months, in the case of part-time registration.

A candidate applying for registration shall do so, specifying the broad field of research, which shall normally be one related to the field of specialization chosen in his/her PG degree.

GUIDANCE

Every candidate admitted into the M.Phil./ Ph.D. Research programme shall be registered under a qualified and recognized guide in the Department / Institution, where the candidate is admitted for the research programme. The research guide shall guide the candidates, throughout his/her research programme and monitor his / her progress.

A guide recognized for Ph.D. programme can guide at any point of time not more than EIGHT Ph.D. candidates & FIVE M.Phil. candidates and a guide recognized for M.Phil. programme can guide at any point of time not more than FIVE M.Phil. candidates.

All candidates should have passed a two-year PG degree course after 3-year Bachelor’s degree course and Higher Secondary course of 2-year duration after 10-year SSLC (i.e.10+2+3+2 years of study) or one year Pre-degree after 11-year SSLC (11+1+3+2) or 10-year SSLC plus 3-year Diploma plus two year UG degree and two year PG (10+3+2+2) or four year UG degree and one year masters degree (10+2+4+1). So candidates possessing a PG degree with 17 years of total duration of study alone are eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme.

(a) Candidates belonging to the following categories are eligible to register for M.Phil. (Full-Time / Part Time) programme:

A candidate having a minimum 55% (for SC/ST candidates the minimum eligibility is 50%) marks and above in the Master’s degree and working as Full- time Research Fellows/Technical Assistants/Research Assistants in time-bound Research schemes of one year duration or more in University Departments/Research Departments of Affiliated Colleges/Recognized Research Institutions.

(b) Candidates belonging to the following categories are eligible to register for M.Phil. (Part-Time) programme:

i. Any person employed in any concern/organization/institution/ R & D Centres / Laboratories within Tamil Nadu or Research Institutions recognized by Bharathiar University with a minimum of 55% of marks in the Master’s degree. Such candidates shall produce a No-objection certificate from the Employer or Head of the Institution (in case of Educational Institutions).

ii. All teachers working in colleges affiliated to Bharathiar University are eligible. Candidates working as guest lecturers on consolidated pay are also eligible to pursue M.Phil. (Part-time) programme provided they produce an NOC and service certificate from their respective colleges.

iii. Candidates working in colleges affiliated to Universities other than Bharathiar University have to produce a No objection Certificate and service certificate from the Head of the Institution/University.

iv. T.C. need not be insisted for admission to part-time M.Phil./Ph.D. programmes.

Ph.D. (PT/FT)
ELIGIBILITY

Candidates with a minimum of 50% marks in PG degree be permitted to register for M.Phil / Ph.D. (Full time / Part time programmes). Further those who have secured lesser thatn 55% (except SC / ST) of marks and got admitted are specifically informed that they are not eligible for teaching positions as per UGC and State Government Norms.

FULL-TIME

Full-Time ( without stipend or fellowship) / Research fellows / Research Assistants/Technical Assistants and project Assistants appointed in the research projects funded by recognized agencies / Government are also eligible to register for Ph.D. on a fulltime basis in the same department provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria laid in.

PART-TIME (TEACHER OR NON-TEACHER)

The candidates possessing any one of the above qualifications and falling under any of the following categories are eligible to register for Ph.D. Part-time programme.

"A teacher with a minimum two years of experience working in the Department of the University or of an affiliated College of this University / Higher Secondary School / High School / Polytechnic / Colleges affiliated to other universities (in subjects other than Engineering, Medicine, Law and Agriculture within the territorial Jurisdiction of Bharathiar University.

Duration

M.Phil (Full Time)

The duration of the M.Phil Full-Time programme shall extend over a period of one academic year (twelve months) consisting of two semesters commencing from 1st September.

M.Phil (Part Time)

The duration of the M.Phil Part-time programme shall extend over a period of two academic years commencing from 1st September.

The maximum period for completion of the M.Phil programme is two years in the case of Full – time candidates, and three years in the case of Part-Time candidates.

Course of Study

The course of study for M.Phil degree programme shall consist of three written papers under Part-I and a Dissertation under Part-II of the programme.
